Levitt Loves Kids

The Levitt Loves Kids program showcases the unique talents of local area children by enabling them to perform on stage, in front of a live audience, prior to our professional concerts. Children audition for a 20-minute performance slot during our summer concert series. Auditions are announed in local newspapers and throughout area public school district and private schools, and are open to residents of Los Angeles County under the age of 18. The auditions are judged by a panel of Levitt Pavilion board members and staff, each with particular musical expertise. The judges choose twenty young performers to take part in our summer concert series. Selected child artists open for our concerts on Wednesdays and Sundays, before our Children’s Night and Jazz performers. The program is designed to help jump-start the careers of uniquely talented children in our community. Participation in the Levitt Loves Kids program often leads to larger performance opportunities and more widespread exposure for performers. Levitt in the Schools

In order to make our concert programming more poignant and relevant for children, the Friends of the Levitt Pavilion Pasadena sought out an opportunity to fill the music education gap in our area schools. We assembled an advisory committee, made up of music specialists and program staff from area schools and FLPP Board members with expertise in the educational field, to add an educational component to our youth outreach programs. Levitt in the Schools will allow children to learn about music in a classroom setting from professional artists, then experience what they have learned live on stage at the Levitt. The first phase of the project is taking place this summer, through a partnership with Five Acres School and Residential Treatment Center. Artists from our summer series will conduct lecture demonstrations for the children at Five Acres, discussing the origin, history, and cultural significance of the musical form they are presenting, and demonstrate each of the musical instruments they use in their work. The elements of composition and improvisation will also be examined, and students will be encouraged to compose their own works in the demonstrated genre. With each lecture demonstration, students will have the opportunity to observe how various musical styles have evolved over time and been shaped by social, cultural, and historical influences. Children who participate in the lecture demonstrations will receive “backstage passes” and reserved seating at the corresponding concerts during our summer season. Community Partners Program

Our Community Partners program grants local area social service organizations the opportunity to promote their programs to our audiences by occupying a booth at a concert, passing out promotional materials, and/or making verbal presentations from the stage. This partnership allows for cross-marketing efforts, and provides us targeted access to underserved residents who utilize nonprofit services, so that we can reach out to communities who typically have no access to live arts performances. Community Partners for our 2008 season include:
